Arthur Lewis Little, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 1957, after a long lingering illness of several months during which time it was known that his recovery was improbable. Arthur, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Lewis Little, was born Sept. 10, 1896 near Benkelman, Nebraska. Arthur's parents were among the early pioneers, having came to Dundy county in the fall of 1887 from Iowa. He was born and reared in the Allston Precinct where he likewise attended school. As a young man he assisted his father and older brothers with their farming operations. On July 21, 1917, he was united in marriage to Lela M. DeHart. To this happy union, seven children were born, all of whom survive him with the exceptions of an infant son. For years he was likewise foster father to a nephew, Roy James Durbin, who made his home with them. Arthur was preceded in death by his parent's, his father having passed away in March, 1926 and his mother in March 1933; one infant son, Vaughn Ronald, June 3, 1918 and one sister, Nellie Teeter, in October, 1956. Arthur leaves to mourn his departure, his faithful and loving wife, Lela, five daughters, June Stamm, Maxine Watters, both of Benkelman; Ernestine Smith of Haigler; Geraldine Pursley of Parks and Joyce Vincent of Grand Junction, Colorado, one son Neddie of Benkelman; five sons-in-law. one daughter-in-law; ten granddaughters; five grandsons; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Blanche DeHart; four brothers, Frank, Pat, Loyd of Benkelman and Lee of St. Francis, Kansas; three sisters, Ella Williams of Benkelman, Jessie Headrick of McDonald, Kansas and Nellie Rose of York, Nebraska, besides numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church in Benkelman on Monday morning with John. H. Oliver officiating assisted by Rev. Hubert Hughes. Singers were Wilbur Case, Edward Masters, Vearl Kitt and Ross D. Druliner. Mrs. Jo Anne Rath was at the organ. Casket bearers were Harold Hall, Paul Knecht, Boyd Benge, Joe Haley, E. F. Ham and Peter Christiansen. Interment was in the Benkelman Cemetery and the services were arranged by the Laughlin's Funeral Home.
