Arthur Martin Bangert was born to Henry and Marie (Seeman) Bangert on December 13, 1920 in Lawrence, NE. He was baptized January 2, 1921 and confirmed on June 9, 1935; the third of six children, he was raised on the family farm. As a toddler, Art suffered serious burns as a result of falling into a pot of boiling water his mother had prepared for doing laundry. His prognosis was poor, but his parents prayed that if the Lord would spare his life, they would make sure he would become a church worker. So, when he was a teen ager, his father put him on a train bound for Seward, with only a few coins in his pocket and his clothes. He attended high school and then college at Concordia in Seward, preparing for the teaching ministry, and graduated from Concordia Teachers College in 1942. He later received his Masters degree from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Art was married in 1945, and became a parent, grandparent and great-grandparent. During his career, Art served as teacher and principal in Lutheran schools in Harrington, KS; at Immanuel in rural Seward; St. Paul's in Kennesaw and St. Paul's in Utica. He then accepted a call as principal of Lutheran High School East in Cleveland Heights, OH; and principal of St. John Academy in Winfield, KS; Concordia Seminary in Ft. Wayne, IN; and Concordia University in Seward. A farm boy at heart, Art enjoyed helping at the farm of his brother in law, whenever he could. He was also a handy man and liked doing projects around the house. As a child of the Great Depression, he especially enjoyed being creative and fixing things from whatever was available instead of buying something new. Art often said that the most important thing to him was his faith in Christ, and he set a wonderful example of making Christ the center of his life. Next in importance was his family, his favorite thing was when the family was all gathered around the kitchen table. Art was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Victor and Henry Bangert; sister, Esther Grabowski; brothers in law, Vernon Grabowski and Weldon Cook; as well as sisters in law, Lucille Bangert, Irene Bangert and Elaine Bangert.
