Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday June 18, 2013 at St Nicholas Catholic Church, Tea, SD. He was born in 1924 in Polo, SD to Joseph & Anna (Hardes) Lammers, the third of ten children. Read More	08/20/1924 - 06/15/2013 ~~~~~~ Arthur "Mel" Lammers, 88, of Tea, SD died peacefully Saturday, June 15th, 2013 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice Cottage. Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday June 18, 2013 at St Nicholas Catholic Church, Tea, SD. He was born in 1924 in Polo, SD to Joseph & Anna (Hardes) Lammers, the third of ten children. He lived and worked on the family farm near Polo and enjoyed playing the guitar and fiddle at local dances. In the late 1940's he moved to Sioux Falls to work for the family beverage wholesaling business. He served in the Korean War where he was stationed in Japan. Upon returning, he married Alberta (Bertie) Reichelt of Tea SD on Sept 20, 1953 and continued to work for Lammers Beverage Co. until the mid 1970's. They lived in the McKennan Park area where they raised six children. He was an active member of St Mary's Catholic Church. Many special friendships and fond memories were made with families in this neighborhood. In the mid-1980's they moved to Bertie's family farm near Tea where he lived until his death. Many of his favorite pastimes included golfing at Elmwood & Spring Creek Golf Courses, guitar playing, bass fishing and goose hunting. He greatly enjoyed family gatherings with his nine siblings and 64 nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Elks and Toastmasters. He is survived by his six children Chuck (Techy) Lammers, Orlando, FL; Mary (Mike) Bills, Sioux Falls; Jim (Susie) Lammers, Hartford SD; Greg Lammers, Fargo, ND; Richard and Robert Lammers, Tea SD; seven grandchildren Matthew and Jacob Lammers, Jenn (Bob) Cogley, Jess (Lucas) Hachmeister, James (Katie) Bills, Caitlin and Anna Bills, one great-grandchild Josie Cogley. Also, seven siblings Lee Lammers, Agnes Kolda, Betty Matthews, Mary McDermott, Jane Van Hove, Ellie Sabers, Ed Lammers. He was preceded in death by his wife Bertie, infant son Arthur, brothers Paul Lammers and Cal (Alfonse) Lammers.
