Arthur Orrin Stedman Hartland, April 17 – Arthur Orrin Stedman, 68, died one hour after being stricken with a shock while shopping in Ellsworth on last Saturday afternoon. He was born in West Hartland, January 24, 1881, the son of Vialle and Sada Ford Stedman. He lived in Hartland, where he acted as road commissioner for many years and was the first state patrolman placed in Hartland. He also operated a blacksmith shop for many years and during recent years has been employed by the state. He has lived in Ellsworth, with the exception of the last few months he has been employed in North Anson. He returned to Ellsworth a week ago. Survivors are his widow, Bertha, of North Anson; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Carter of Norwich Conn., and Mrs. Lela Burton of Hartland; one son, Vialle of Burnham, en route home from Florida by auto; one half-sister, Mrs. Lottie Salsbury of Waterville; two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Mayo and Mrs. Clara Gould of Hartland, and four brothers, Clayton of Hartland, Onel of North Anson, Irvin and Vernard of Hartland; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday April 19, from the First Baptist church of Hartland. Rev. Harold A. Haskell will officiate. Interment will be in the Clayton Stedman lot in Pine Grove cemetery. (Bangor Daily News, Monday 18 April 1949, p7)
