Description	:	Arthur R. "Art" Gross, age 81, Crocker, died on Sunday evening, September 30, 2007 in the Golden Living Center at Clark where he has resided nearly 4 years. Art Gross was born on September 21, 1926 north of Clark, the son of William J. and Tomina Palma (Holmes) Gross. He attended school in the northwest Woodland Township country school. "Art" Gross, age 81, Crocker, died on Sunday evening, September 30, 2007 in the Golden Living Center at Clark where he has resided nearly 4 years. Art Gross was born on September 21, 1926 north of Clark, the son of William J. and Tomina Palma (Holmes) Gross. He attended school in the northwest Woodland Township country school. Following his schooling he helped on the family farm as well as assisting other farmers in the area. He served his country during WWII from 1945 to 1946 being stationed in Hawaii guarding prisoners. On March 16, 1951 he was united in marriage to Joyce Regnier in the American Lutheran Church at Webster. Following their marriage they moved to Lannon, WI where he worked in a granite quarry. They returned to the Crocker area that fall on October 31st where he continued working for area farmers. In 1953 they moved to Box Elder, SD where he helped build, running a trencher, the Ellsworth Air Force Base. In 1955 they moved back to the area and farmed for 2 years. In 1962 he drove school bus for the Crocker School until its closing in 1967. In the 70's he worked construction with his brother Elmer, until his death on Dec. 11, 1977, then worked construction on his own for another year. He also cut scrap iron and sorted metals to sell for many years. He was a member of the Crocker Lutheran Church where he was also baptized. Art was also a member of Baker Post 209, American Legion, at Raymond. He was also a member of the Crocker Saddle Club. He enjoyed working with horses, whether it was breaking them to drive or ride. Some of his fondest moments were spent hunting pheasants, but most of all mink with his dog Speck. He will long be remembered for being able to fix most anything from household appliances to machinery. He also was able to make sure that cars and tractors should operate as they were meant to be. He was also proud of the fact that he built the home he and Joyce lived in and the barn on the property too was built by him. Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife Joyce of Crocker, a son, Lonnie Gross and wife Carla of Gillette, WY, a daughter Debra Loterbauer and husband Jim of Crocker; 5 granddaughters, Tracey Handran and husband Thad, Stacey Wrenn and husband Duane, Kay Quale and husband Lee, Glenda Wells and Jamie Yexley and husband Doug and 8 great-grandchildren, Harley and Nathan Wrenn, Kylie, Jordan, Rebecca and Moriah Engdahl, James Mitchell, Caleb Yexley and a step-great-grandchild, Devon Handran. He also leaves brothers Ray Gross and wife Lillian of Clark and Gordon Gross and wife Marcella of Turton, sister-in-laws, Dorey Gross and Laura Gross both of Clark and Wilma Gross of Milbank. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers, Carl, Tom and wife Ruby, LeRoy "Bud", John, Elmer and Henry and a sister, Adeline Loterbauer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2007 in the Crocker Lutheran Church at Crocker with Minister Marion Grimes officiating. Active casketbearers will be Dick Wells, Dick Rasmussen, LeRoy Monson, Don Olson, Alan Yexley and Dan Reppe. Burial will follow in the St. Thomas Cemetery at Crocker. Arrangements by Furness Funeral Home.
