A fire at the Ferguson farm, 17 miles southwest of Holyoke, on July 27 completely destroyed a machine shed, two tractors and a truck and all of Mr. Ferguson's shop tools. Holyoke Enterprise August 2, 1962 ARTHUR FERGUSON RITES CONDUCTED FRIDAY AT WAGES Last rites for Arthur S. Ferguson, well known rancher and farmer and resident of the Wages community most of his life, were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 3, at the Wages Methodist church. Officiating minister was Rev. Stanley Watson, pastor of the Wages and Paoli Methodist churches. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park. Arrangements were in charge of the Lewis Funeral Home of Holyoke. Mr. Ferguson, who was 52 years of age, became ill Saturday evening, July 31, and was brought to the East Phillips County Hospital here. His condition was diagnosed as a coronary heart attack, complicated by diabetes. His health had not been as good as usual for several weeks, but he continued to work long hours at his ranch about 17 miles southwest of Holyoke and his condition was not believed to be serious until he suffered the attack. A son of Colonel E. and Grace Ferguson, Arthur S. Ferguson was born April 18, 1910, at Holyoke. He moved to Sterling with his parents while still an infant and returned to the Wages community at the age of 2 years. He spent the rest of his life on the same ranch. Mr. Ferguson was educated in rural schools of Phillips and Yuma Counties. On October 4, 1942 he was united in marriage to Alice Fern Austin of Holyoke. To this union two sons were born, both of whom survive. He was a member of the Wages Epworth Methodist church, Wages Epworth Grange and the Colorado Cattlemen's association. He was known as an outstanding rancher and farmer and raised fine cattle on his ranch. Survivors include his wife, Alice; two sons, Lee, 13 and Glen, 8; four brothers, Carl, Robert, Frank and William, all of the Wages district; one sister, Leah (Mrs. Clyde) Sperber, also of the same community; and a host of other relatives and friends.
