Silas Himmelman, ages 74 years, a life long resident of Rose Bay, passed away at his home Thursday afternoon, May 20, after an illness extending over a period of three months. Silas Himmelman, ages 74 years, a life long resident of Rose Bay, passed away at his home Thursday afternoon, May 20, after an illness extending over a period of three months. Deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Himmelman of Rose bay. During his younger life he was a follower of the sea but later devoted his entire time to his farm. He is survived by his widow, who was formerly Miss Louisa Backman of Bayport; and by four daughters, Eva (Mrs. Blakeney)and Miss Miriam of the United States; and the Misses Charlotte and Addie at home. A daughter, Jennie and a son, Wilfred, predeceased him several years ago. He is also survived by a son, Arthur of the R.C.A. F. and a daughter, Ellen, of Halifax, by a previous marriage. His funeral was held from his late residence and from St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, of which he was a faithful member, on Saturday afternoon and the service was conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.J. Goos, who spoke from the text, "For me to live in Christ, to die is gain." The hymns sung were ,"Oh, God, Our Help in Ages Past," "It is Not Death to Die," and "Abide With Me." The pall bearers were Albert Conrad, Albert Mossman, Rueben Oxner, Austin Wamboldt, Napean Smith, and Loraine Conrad. Interment was made in the cemetery at Rose bay. With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
