Arthur Soderholm, Jr. 90 years of age, of Holdrege, (formerly of rural Funk, Nebraska) passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Art was born May 5, 1927 on the family farm northwest of Funk, Nebraska in Phelps County, the third of five children born to Arthur Soderholm, Sr. and Minnie Mae (Sauer) Soderholm. He received his primary education from District #26 country school, and then graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1945. Following graduation, he continued to pursue his lifelong passion of farming. On July 13, 1947, he was united in marriage to Barbara V. Raymond at the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk and to this union twelve children were born: Arthur III, Gerald, Patricia, Randall, Robert, Thomas, Richard, Kenneth, Raymond, William, Virginia, and Ronald. The couple had celebrated 57 years of marriage prior to the death of his wife, Barbara on May 22, 2004. Art was a long-time member of the Emmaus Evangelical Free Church northwest of Funk, where he served as Treasurer for many years. Art also served on the NRD Board of Directors for several years. Throughout the years, one of his favorite past-times was bowling. Many friendship bonds were formed on bowling league, and a highlight of his bowling career was at the point when he was able to participate with his children, and grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, Barbara, Art was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Soderholm in 1976; two sisters: Marjorie Soderholm and Dorothy Soderholm; sister-in-law, Lillian Anderson and her husband, Harold; brother-in-law, Bert Raymond; and nephews: James Anderson and John Anderson. He leaves to celebrate his life; his two daughters: Patti Thorell and her husband, Dave of Loomis; and Virginia Fetters and her husband, Rich of Loomis; nine sons: Art Soderholm III and his wife, Debbie of Johnston, Iowa; Randy Soderholm of Holdrege; Bob Soderholm and his wife, Marti of York, Nebraska; Tom Soderholm and his wife, Kim of Holdrege; Rich Soderholm and his wife, Lisa of Alma, Nebraska; Ken Soderholm and his wife, Kathy of Kearney, Nebraska; Ray Soderholm of Holdrege; Bill Soderholm and his wife, Debbie of Holdrege; and Ron Soderholm of Holdrege; 15 grandchildren: Tim Soderholm and his wife, Janelle; Erik Soderholm and his wife, Elena; Matthew Thorell; Crystal Terrell and her husband, Seth; Amber Soderholm; Brad Soderholm; Kyle Soderholm; Kendra Svoboda and her husband, Jeff; Lynae Soderholm and her friend, Jordan Rebman; Ryan Soderholm; Jim DeLaet and his wife, Jeny; Heath Soderholm; Jared Fetters and his wife, Laura; Garrett Fetters; and Emily Fetters and her fiancé, Zacc Hoffart; 9 great-grandchildren: Hudson, Jillian and Kylie Soderholm; Selah Mae and Rilah Jewel Terrell; Nathaniel and Ethan Svoboda; Jayson DeLaet and Mason Fetters; one sister, Beverly Soderholm of Lincoln; one brother, Harvey Soderholm and his wife, Joyce of Lincoln; one sister-in-law, Betty Raymond of Funk; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. A memorial has been established in Art's honor, and kindly suggested to Loomis Evangelical Free Church – Building Fund, or to the Phelps County Community Foundation to assist in establishing a bowling scholarship.
