Description	:	Arthur "Art" Walter, 79, of Billings, passed away early Monday morning, July 29, 2002, at St. Vincent Hospital. Arthur was born on Sept. 7, 1922, in Billings, a son of Adolph and Amelia (Nagel) Walter. He spent his childhood on the family farm east of Billings. In 1940, he met his love-to-be, Grace Emily Sievertsen and they were married on Oct. 24, 1942. They then moved to some family... Read More	Arthur "Art" Walter, 79, of Billings, passed away early Monday morning, July 29, 2002, at St. Vincent Hospital. Arthur was born on Sept. 7, 1922, in Billings, a son of Adolph and Amelia (Nagel) Walter. He spent his childhood on the family farm east of Billings. In 1940, he met his love-to-be, Grace Emily Sievertsen and they were married on Oct. 24, 1942. Through the years, Art and Grace farmed and ranched in Billings, Hardin, Rapelje, Rockvale, Laurel and finally back in Billings where they stayed until retiring from farming in 1973. They then moved to some family property on the corner of Rosebud Lane and Coburn Road where they built a new home and Art went to work for Ford Implement in Billings. He stayed there until health reasons caused him to retire. Art lived out his years caring for his family and his yard and garden. Mr. Walter was very devoted to his family and one of the last things he told Mom was "You are the light of my life; together we raised one heck of a family." Art will be missed very much by his family and everyone that knew him. We all have a special angel looking down on us. Survivors include his wife of 59 years and nine months, Grace Emily Walter; two sons, Jim (Deanna) Walter of Lebanon, Ore., and Wally (Phyllis) Walter of Columbus; a daughter, Nancy (Jack) Schmidt of Billings; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Walter of Red Lodge; three sisters, Alvina Lackman of Billings, Shirley (Chuck) Rodgers of Laurel, and Beverly (Clinton) Rae of Puyallup, Wash.; three brothers, Robert Walter of Laurel, Richard (Sharon) Walter of Billings and Kenneth (Vicki) Walter of Clark, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Ed Walter; two sisters, Bert Neibauer and Dort Popelka; a son, Thomas Walter; and a granddaughter, Heidi Walter. Visitations will begin Wednesday morning, July 31, at the Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. West. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Smith West Chapel, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Smith West Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
