Breese Rd., died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday in Shawnee Manor Nursing Home following a one-month illness. Mr. Copus was elected as Fort Shawnee's first mayor in 1960 and served three terms. Copus, 76, of 2710 W. Breese Rd., died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday in Shawnee Manor Nursing Home following a one-month illness. Mr. Copus was elected as Fort Shawnee's first mayor in 1960 and served three terms. He was retired owner and operator of Elmview Dairy, former sales manager of San A Pure Dairy and was recently employed at Chiles and Sons-Laman Chapel of Memories. He was a member of Shawnee United Methodist Church, Fort Amanda Lodge 706 of Free and Accepted Masons Ft. Shawnee Lions Club, Shawnee Grange, the Ohio Association of Registered High School Athletic Officials and Western Ohio Athletic Conference Officials Association in basketball and football. Mr. Copus was born Feb. 11, 1902, in Allen County, a son of Ozro S. and Olive Neely Copus. He married Juanita Bair on May 18, 1921, and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Earl (Dorothy) Brush of Lansing, Mich., and Mrs. Kenneth (Ann) Miller of Wonderlick Road; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Chester W. Copus of Mills Road and Clair C. Copus of 910 Leland Ave.; two sisters, Ruth of 700 W. Elm and Mrs. A.F. (Evelyn) McCullough of 909 Crestwood. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the church. Rev. Gary Boucher officiating. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Chiles and Sons Chapel of Memories where Masonic Memorial services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
