Description	:	Beginning in 1916, the WWI Canadian Expeditionary Forces (C.E.F.) recruited young men from Central Alberta (Red Deer and Innisfail area Districts) for service. Dad and his pal ART GOODACRE enlisted with the 187th Battalion Canadian Infantry. The Battalion trained at Sarcee Camp (Battalion Park), Calgary. November 25, 1916 they left for Nova Scotia for transport to England. While the 187th was still at Amherst, Nova Scotia 36 members were held behind due to contracting the mumps. Instead, the 36 remaining members were sent to Bramshott, Liphook, Hampshire, England. At a later date, men from the original 187th Battalion were also reassigned to the 10th, 31st, 50th and 49th Battalions. Harold was stationed with the 1st Depot Ordinance in Bramshott/Liphook. He was honorably discharged April 13, 1920. Harold and Art Goodacre returned from the War. Three of their pals from the Innisfail/Bowden District did not return. Their monuments are located at St. Mary the Virgin Churchyard, Bramshott, Hampshire. Duncan Campbell #73133604; Bert Lougheed #73230370; and John Laurel Foster #73089036 did not return. After the War, Art Goodacre and his family settled in Red Deer. Both KNIPE and GOODACRE families came from Thurlby/Bourne, Lincolnshire, England. The families were related. Art Goodacre is the son of William Barton Goodacre/MARY BROWNING KNIPE. The KNIPE and GOODACRE families lived in neighboring Districts.
