Born July 17, 1918, near Bath, Franklin County, Ind., he was the son of Frederick A. and Matilda (Beckman) Wendel. He attended school in Camden (Preble County). Read More	Arthur William Wendel, 79, of Fort Collins, Colo., died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at his home. Born July 17, 1918, near Bath, Franklin County, Ind., he was the son of Frederick A. and Matilda (Beckman) Wendel. He attended school in Camden (Preble County). He was a U.S. Army infantry captain, having served during World War II in Germany and in the Korean War. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Silver Star and Purple Heart. Mr. Wendel was a sales representative for Van Camp Hardware and Iron in South Bend, Ind., for 28 years. He retired in 1974 and moved to Fort Collins, Colo. He was a ditch rider for the Pleasant Valley and Lake Canal. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1781 and Fort Collins Rockhounds. Survivors include his wife, Betty (Faber) Wendel, whom he married Dec. 14, 1946, in Oxford; five sons, Robert Wendel of Woodland Park, Colo., Dan Wendel, Roger Wendel and Edward Wendel, all of Fort Collins, Colo., and Mark Wendel of Wellington, Colo.; one daughter, Margaret Mantle of LaSalle, Colo. Also surviving are four grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Robert Wendel and Bruce Wendel, both of Richmond, Ind.; two sisters, Helen Huss of Covington, Ky., and Maxine Lynch of Memphis, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Gladys Gotter and Ruby Ruby Roach. A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 9, at Warren-Bohlender Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Lundgren officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice, to the American Cancer Society, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
