She was the daughter of: Clarence and Margaret (Pautvein) Burke. Arvella was raised and educated in North Dakota and graduated from Edmore High School in 1931. She then attended Iowa Teachers College and received her normal teacher's certificate. Arvella taught near Baxter; Jasper County, Iowa, in a rural school until her marriage. Arvella taught near Baxter; Jasper County, Iowa, in a rural school until her marriage. On Saturday; February 26, 1938, Arvella was united in marriage to Earl Goodman in Rhodes; Marshall County, Iowa. Three children were born to this union. Together they farmed near Rhodes, Iowa until they retired and moved to Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa. Arvella was a long-time member of Saint Henry's Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Arvella Ann (Burke) Goodman, age: 95, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester; Delaware County, Iowa. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her three children: Earlene (Robert) Houlihan of Manchester, Iowa, Roger (Ginny) Goodman of Somerdale; Camden County, New Jersey and Pat (Ann) Goodman of Muscatine; Muscatine County, Iowa. Her five grandchildren: John Houlihan of Manchester, Iowa, Kathy Houlihan (Mark) Staudt, of Grimes; Polk County, Iowa, Kate Goodman of Somerdale, New Jersey, Meg (Daniel) Hewes of Seattle; King County, Washington and Rose Goodman of Muscatine, Iowa. Also her three great-grandchildren: Nick, Anna, and Izzy Staudt of Grimes, Iowa. Arvella was preceded in death by her husband: Earl Goodman in 1992; her parents; her sister: Leola and her two brothers: Harold and Don. May they rest in peace. May God bless her memory and give strength to those that mourn. Visitation will be from: 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday; January 9, 2011 at the Leonard-Muller Funeral Home - Manchester, Iowa. A Rosary will begin at: 2:00 p.m. by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Funeral services will begin at: 11:00 a.m. on Monday; January 10, 2011 at the Saint Henry's Catholic Church in Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa. Interment will begin at the: Saint Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Rhodes, Iowa.
