She was born on July 10, 1929 in Cabins, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Fred and Zola Self Smith. On June 2, 1948, she married Raymond C. Gochenour Jr., who preceded her in death on October 6, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her son, Robert Cleveland Gochenour, Sr. Arvella was a homemaker and a member of Mt Zion Church of the Brethren in Luray. Surviving in addition is one brother, Frederick Smith of Beltsville, Maryland; four sisters, Pauline Oats of Keyser, West Virginia, Mary Alice Wholey of Winchester, Freida Pence of Charlottesville, and Betty Lou Mallow of Stephens City; a son, Gregory Allen Gochenour and wife Carolyn of Luray; a daughter, Linda Diane Bolton of Stuarts Draft, a daughter in-law Judy Comer Gochenour of Stanley; nine grandchildren, Angie Carrico, Elisabeth, Daniel, Ashley, and Robert Gochenour, Lynn Fretwell, Quinn Aleshire, Jennifer Hughes and Betsy Bolton; 10 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Olivia and Eli Carrico, Ty Gochenour, Lucas, Amber and Mason Lane, Casey and Colton Aleshire and Taylor Fretwell; one great-great-grandchild, Levi Loan, and special friend Joyce Rowe. Pastor Gary Major and Pastor Frank Painter will conduct funeral services at Mt Zion Church of the Brethren in Luray at 11 am Monday, May 11, 2015. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am prior to the service on Monday. Burial will follow immediately after at Mt Zion Church of the Brethren Cemetery. obit from Kyger Funeral Home website
