Arvid Eugene Huffman was born in Paton, Iowa, on August 6, 1930, the son of Samuel and Gladys (Fox) Huffman. Arvid Eugene Huffman was born in Paton, Iowa, on August 6, 1930, the son of Samuel and Gladys (Fox) Huffman. He graduated from Boone High School in 1948 and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1950, serving during the Korean War. He was stationed in San Diego, California as a Personnelman Second Class. He was discharged from the Navy in 1954. On June 12, 1952, Arvid married Catherine Jordan at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, northwest of Gilbert. In earlier years, Arvid worked as a groundsman for the Fort Dodge, Des Moines & Southern Railroad. In 1955, he began working for Boone State Bank where he served as Vice President and Head Cashier. He retired in 1993. In earlier years, Arvid was a member of the Boone Jaycees and played league softball, and was a member of the Boone State Bowling League. He enjoyed fishing with his brother Buck, reading, playing cards, playing Old Timers Softball, humming, and attending baseball games at Memorial Park. Arvid was recognized as ‘Boss of the Year’. After retirement, he was a car currier for Moffitt’s Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, and loved ‘cruising’ around town. He was an active member of his church, serving as an usher and for many years, breaded the fish for the Knights of Columbus fish fries. Arvid was a member of the American Legion Post #56 and was a member of the Boone Veterans Council. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a granddaughter Margo Huffman. Arvid is survived by his wife Catherine ‘Katie’ of Boone; three sons, Charles “Chuck” and friend Mary Farley, David and wife Elise, and Brian and wife Tracy, all of Boone; three daughters, Deborah Furstenau of Des Moines, Dorene Buckingham and husband Collin, and Denise Walters and companion Daryl Thompson, all of Boone; his brother Harold ‘Buck’ and wife Dorothy of Boone; a sister JoAnn Townsend and husband Kenny of Ogden; 12 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
