Description	:	Arvold "Arv" Lee Hardie, age 80 of Watertown passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022 in Watertown, SD. There will be a visitation held in Arv's honor on Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown. This will be the only service held here. There will be a private family burial at a later date in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD. Honorary urn bearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren and all his friends and past co-workers from Walmart and the Watertown School System. Arvold Lee Hardie was born on January 23, 1941, in Redfield, South Dakota to loving parents, Edwin and Clara (Lingeman) Hardie. He was baptized at Zell Catholic Church in Zell, South Dakota. He attended Zell Catholic Boarding School and then Redfield High School in Redfield, South Dakota. Arvold joined the National Guard in 1959 and later joined the United States Air Force where he served for 20 and 1/2 years, retiring in December, 1979. He served in the Philippines, Germany and other areas in Europe during the Viet Nam conflict. Arvold married, Sandy Meyer and three children were born of this union, Cheryl, Richard and Daryl. Arvold and Sandy were later divorced. Arvold worked in a number of jobs after his discharge mainly in California until returning to South Dakota in 1984 to be united in marriage with the love of his life, Roxanne Trenholm Rossow in Watertown, South Dakota. To this union, one son was born, Shane Edwin Hardie. "Arv" as he wanted to be called went to work for Walmart when they opened their store in Watertown in 1985. He worked there for 13 years, retiring in 1998. He then went to work for the Watertown School District driving school bus. He always said this was his dream job as he loved the kids. It was not unusual for him to have one of his young riders run up to him in store and hug him and say "that's Mr. Bus Driver". He retired from driving school bus in 2017 when the hard winters just got to be too much for him to handle the bus on the country roads. He just didn't want to put the little ones in any jeopardy. Arv then drove part-time for the Watertown City Transit, mostly transporting patients back and forth to Sanford and Avera in Sioux Falls for medical treatments until his health forced him to completely retire. Arv is survived by his wife, Roxanne; son, Shane of Watertown, South Dakota; one daughter, Cheryl (Billy) Hindman of Yukon, Oklahoma; a son, Daryl, of Montana, and two step-daughters, Noelle (Brian) Heuer of Summit, South Dakota, and Rochelle Rossow of Watertown, South Dakota. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, his brother, Arthur Hardie of Faulkton, South Dakota, his sister, Crystal Jungwirth of Redfield, South Dakota and many nieces and nephews. Arvold was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Richard Hardie, his sister, Corrine Pfeiffer and brother-in-law, Joe Pfeiffer.
