Negligence causes the accident Acy Pollard, residing at North M Street, a car repairer in the employ of the Southern Indiana Railway Company, while at work under a car in the shop yards Wednesday afternoon, received injuries of such a character as to necessitate the amputation of his right leg at the thigh and will ultimately result in his death. Pollard it appears was at work under a car in the yards at the North I Street shops and while thus engaged, a switching crew run a cut of cars down against the one under which Pollard was at work. In trying to crawl from his dangerous position, Pollard was caught by the rear trucks of the moving car and his right leg was so badly mangled above the knee that amputation at the thigh joint was decided upon by the physicians. Pollard's left leg was broken and the flesh badly bruised. The accident occurred about 4:00 and the injured man was hurried to the City Hospital where Dr. Freeland Simpson and Short attended him. The physicians hold out little hope of Pollard's recovery, and he passed a very restless night. The injured man is married. He has been in the employ of the Southern Indiana for some time as a car repairer. The accident Wednesday appears to have been the result of negligence on the part of someone, as it is stated that Pollard had displayed the usual flag signal on the end of the car under which he was at work. His condition this morning was not very encouraging to his physician and friends and it is feared he cannot possibly survive many hours.
