Was married to Elizabeth Life, Nov. 3, 1855. They came to Marshall Co. Kansas in 1859 and both spent the remainder of their lives here excepting 12 years which was spent in Indiana. Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Philips. One son died in infancy and the daughter, Mary Evaline grew to womanhood and married W. P. Philips was born June 8, 1835 in Jay County, Indiana. Was married to Elizabeth Life, Nov. 3, 1855. They came to Marshall Co. Kansas in 1859 and both spent the remainder of their lives here excepting 12 years which was spent in Indiana. Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Philips. One son died in infancy and the daughter, Mary Evaline grew to womanhood and married W. P. Taylor both of whom died several years ago leaving their six children to be reared by the grandparents. This Mr. and Mrs. Philips did faithfully, giving them great love and tender care. Mrs. Philips died June 20, 1903. Mr. Philips leaves 6 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren and many friends to mourn his absence. From his discharge from the army we copy the following: "Asa F. Philips, a sergeant, served as a Volunteer in Company D., eight Regiment, Kansas Volunteer Infantry from Oct. 18, 1861 to March 1, 1864. He was in the engagement at Chicamaugua, Georgia Sept. 19, 1863 where he distinguished himself for bravery and was wounded severely. He was a brave and good soldier and comrade." He has lived in Marysville 25 years and was Deputy Sheriff of Marshall County for some years. Mr. Philips was a true friend and neighbor and will be greatly missed in the community.
