Johnson, Who Died Southwest of Anita ANITA, Aug. 14 (Special to the News-Telegraph) - Asa Saunders Johnson was born in Cedar county, Iowa November 12th, 1864, and passed away at his home four and one-half miles southwest of Anita at the age of fifty-seven years, eight months, and twenty-three days. He was united in marriage November 1, 1888 to Miss Hattie M. Banning of the Exira vicinity, and to this union was born twelve children: Mrs. Dora Wells of Bridgewater, Iowa; Mrs. Myrtle Vetterick of Massena, Iowa; James Johnson of Fontanelle, Iowa; Harold Johnson and Mrs. Frances Greenwaldt of Massena, Iowa; Asa E. Johnson of San Antonio, Texas; Mrs. Edith Williams of Bridgewater, Iowa; George, aged sixteen; Olivene, aged fourteen; Ethel, aged twelve; Glen, aged nine, and Merle, aged six, all of whom are at home. Other near relatives are one sister, Mrs. Ida Masching of Anita; two brothers, James Jonson of Oakland and Lon Johnson of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. There are also nine grandchildren. Came to Audubon in 1886 Mr. Johnson came to Audubon county in 1886, residing there until 1911, when he moved to Massena vicinity, and in 1919 moved to his farm southwest of Anita. During the year 1921, he and his family lived in Anita, occupying the Masching acreage in north Anita. Mr. Johnson had been in ill health for a number of years past, the result of complications arising from serious internal troubles, and was confined to his bed for eleven weeks prior to his passing away. Every possible care and attention was given him by the members of his family and a trained nurse. Funeral at Massena Funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Massena, Iowa on Sunday at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Horton; after which Obedience Lodge No. 380, A. F. and A. M. of Anita, performed the last rites to which their departed brother and friend was entitled. Relatives and friends from out of town in attendance at the funeral services were Mrs. Margaret Abbey of St. Joe, Missouri; Mrs. Ada E. Morey of Manning, Iowa; James Johnson of Oakland, Iowa; Mrs. Carrie Hupkins and family of Guthrie Center, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Max Smith of Hancock, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Otis Allensworth of Oakland, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. John Creese of Audubon, Iowa; and Glen Johnson of Oakland, Iowa. Asa Johnson was a man of excellent character and reputation in the communities in which he lived and he enjoyed the high esteem and confidence of a large circle of friends and acquaintances. His death is not only a distinct loss to the family but to those who knew and loved him, as a man among the best men, a good neighbor, a faithful friend.
