Member of the Honey Creek Baptist Church on February 7, 1879 One of the charter members of Christiansburg Marion Ross GAR Post, formed July 5, 1884 Served as Postmaster of Christiansburg 1889-1891, with an annual salary of $275 March 19, 1891 Received a pension of $8 month St Paris News Dispatch -November 19, 1914 The death of Asa Scott Breslford was at his Christiansburg home after a heroic struggle for recovery. Mr Brelsford was the son of William and Hannah Brelsford, and was born on the farm now owned and occupied by Asa Scott northwest of St Paris on December 30, 1841, having reached the age of 73 years. He was married to Elmina Batdorf, daughter of Samuel and Susan Batdorf on September 3, 1868. There were born of this union four children, two of whom are living. They are Dr Harley Brelsford of Cleveland and Miss Emma Brelsford living at home. Mrs Brelsford died December 3, 1897. On the 30th of April, 1899, he was married a second time to Melvina Kelly who survives him. He also leaves four sisters and a brother, Mrs Phoebe Pence of DeGraff, Mrs Ira Poffenbarger of Urbana, Mrs AE Pond, Mrs Henry Gibbs and Charles Brelsford of St Paris. As a volunteer soldier, he enlisted in the 2nd OVI at the beginning of the Civil War, and served three terms. The funeral services were held from the home on Monday. Rev Pleasant of the Christian Church officiating. Interment was made in Honey Creek Cemetery. Seven of his old comrades from out of town attended the funeral. They were Isaac Huffman of Sidney, Amos Huffman of Cincinnati, Mrs Smith, Session and Fession of Woodstock and Mr Graham of Indianapolis. The former was Mr Brelsford's bunkmate in the Army. William Putnam of Christiansburg is the only local surviving member of the 2nd Ohio remaining.
