Grubb 27 Oct 1859, Leesburg Township, Union County, Ohio and they had two children together: Frank in 1862 and William in 1867. ASHLEY KIGHTLINGER, contractor, Marysville. This family is of German extraction, the pilgrims of whom settled in Pennsylvania, where the parents, Abraham and Nancy were born. They were among the pioneers of 1812 to Morrow County, Ohio, traveling from Pennsylvania with ox teams. They raised a family of six boys and six girls, eleven of whom are living. Five of the boys were soldiers in the three years' service of the Union army in the late rebellion, one of them enlisting the third time. Some of the children subsequently settled in Tazewell County, Ill., where the father died in the seventy-third year of his age. The subject of this sketch wee born in Morrow County, Ohio, in 1836. Left. an orphan when young, he had the rugged edge of life to fight, and without means he warted out, finding employment in Indiana, and by strict economy and perseverance he wits enabled to save enough to purchase thirty-five acres of land in Paris Township, paying $25 per acre for the same. This was the stepping-stone to his further success, which has been earned by bard labor and honest toil. In 1879, he moved to this city, and settled on his commodious place of fourteen acres, where he has since been engaged in teaming and contracting. He enlisted in the ranks of the Union army August 9, 1862, in Company K, Ninety-sixth Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and served until the close of the war. He participated in the battles of Chickasaw Bluff, Miss., December 29, 1862; Arkansas Post, January 11, 1863; Mobile, Ala., December 22, 1864; Sabine Cross Roads, La., April 8, 1864; Fort Gaines, Ala., August 2 to 23, 1864; Fort Morgan, Ala., August 5 to 23, 1864, and others. He was wounded at Vicksburg with a piece of shell, but lost no time in consequence. The marriage of Mr. K to Miss Amanda, daughter of Benjamin C. and Cynthia A. Grubb, occurred in October, 1858. Willie E. is the only living issue of this union. Mr. K. is a member of both branches of the IOOF. order, of the G. A. R., and connected with the Methodist Episcopal Church. News came to this city last Wednesday of the death on Tuesday of Ashley Kightlinger at his home in Lockland, Ohio. The direct cause of death was paralysis and diabetes from which he had suffered for a long time. Mr Kightlinger was for many years a resident of Marysville but about a year ago he went to Lockland to reside with his son. His death is regretted very generally amoung old comrades and friends in this city. We clip the following obituary notice from the Commercial Tribune of last Friday. The funeral service held Thursday afternoon over the remains of the late Comrade Ashley Kightliner, of Lockland, were the most impressive seen for many years in that section. Four distinct services were held at the house and one at the cemetery, occupying nearly three hours to complete. Rev. C.W. Barnes, pastor of Wayne Avenue M.E. church, officiated at the first service, and paid a glowing tribute to the departed, as a man of Christian character and sterling worth. He as followed by Rose of Sharon Lodge No. 74, I.O.O.F., OF Sharonville, which dwelt at length upon the homored membership held by Mr. Kightlinger in that order. Albert E. Martin Camp No. 474, Sons of Veterans of Lockland, then rendered it's ritualistic service over the remains.. A.W. Graves Post No. 563, G.A.R., of Lockwood, then gathered about the coffin, where words were uttered by his old comrades in arms. The remains were removed to Reading Cemetery, where the Odd Fellows consigned them to the tombs with touching words of farewell. The remains were wrapped in the National flag as was his last request, the flag having been twined about his body in the coffin. The pallbearers were Captain James K. Stewart. Lieutenant Thos. Bratton, Sergeants L. Simpson, T.L. Riker and F.G. Kemper and Corporal Herman Borkes, of the Sons of Veterans.
