She was born in Wenatchee on April 26, 1930, to parents, Ronald and Altha Hughes. Aubrey attended school at Sunnyslope, Leavenworth and Wenatchee. She married William A. Rotter on February 23, 1948. They moved to Omak in 1950, where they built and operated Hughes Floral with her parents. They moved to Tonasket in 1975, where she continued her creative artistry in flowers until retiring in 2007.
