Aubyn passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019, at Plainview Manor in Plainview with her family by her side. Aubyn Jean Lichty Masat, was born on November 17, 1935, to Merle K. and Frances N. (Lingenfelter) Lichty at the Miller Farm northwest of Brunswick, Nebraska. She moved with her family to a farm three and a half miles west of Brunswick. Aubyn attended Antelope County District 78 for eight years and graduated from Brunswick High School in May of 1952. After graduation she worked as a nanny until the fall of 1952 when she started to work at the ASCS office in Neligh. Aubyn was united in marriage to Donald Masat on March 22, 1954, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Plainview. They lived a few miles south of Brunswick then moved to a farm one mile west of Brunswick. In March of 1955, Aubyn and Don moved to a farm five miles west and ½ mile south of Brunswick. They lived on the farm and raised their family. Six children were born to this union. Aubyn was a partner in the farming and livestock business. She milked cows and worked in the fields and had chickens, cleaning 100 each year. Aubyn belonged to the Help U Club where she learned to sew and quilt from her Mother and Grandmother Lichty. She also worked at the Oriole Café in Orchard. Don and Aubyn moved to Neligh in October of 1974. They commuted to the farm to do chores and farm. While living in Neligh, she worked part time at the Sears Store and at the Neligh Veterinary Clinic. In 1980 they moved back to the farm west of Brunswick where they built a new home. Don and Aubyn retired in 1998 and enjoyed fishing and camping with the Huskers Kamper Klub and Good Sam Club. They spent 10 years going to Texas for six weeks. Aubyn enjoyed making quilts for all the children and grandchildren. She also crocheted afghan blankets for the grandchildren. Aubyn loved to bake cinnamon rolls and sour cream chocolate cake for birthdays and family gatherings. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed watching their sports, music, and activities. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; an infant daughter, Mary in 1956; son, Scott in 2011; grandson, Richard Hanneman in 2013; son-in-law, Roger Hanneman in 1996; sister, Yvonne Howard; brother, Larry Lichty; and sisters-in-law, Joan Masat and Carolyn Masat. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Donald Masat of Brunswick; daughters, Christine (Bob) Peterson of Kansas City MO, Peggy Hanneman of Norfolk, NE, Lisa (Greg) Simmons of Lincoln NE, and Sandra (Tim) Sutton of Wayne NE; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Carole (Darrell) Crabtree of Brunswick; sister-in-law, Margie Lichty of Neligh; and brothers-in-law, Gordon Masat of Brunswick, Ken (Margo) Masat of TX, Jim Masat of Grand Island, Dick (Judy) Masat of Oregon, and Boyd Howard of Texas.
