Description	:	Audrey Gwendolyn (Gwen) Roberts Knigge, 75, of Fremont died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at A.J. Merrick Manor of Fremont. She was born April 2, 1936, in Beatrice, Nebraska to William Blanning and Jesse (Larkin) Roberts. Gwen grew up in Hooper, graduating from Hooper High School as salutatorian in 1954. Read More	Audrey Gwendolyn (Gwen) Roberts Knigge, 75, of Fremont died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at A.J. Merrick Manor of Fremont. She was born April 2, 1936, in Beatrice, Nebraska to William Blanning and Jesse (Larkin) Roberts. Gwen grew up in Hooper, graduating from Hooper High School as salutatorian in 1954. Gwen married Robert J. Knigge on July 19, 1958 at the Methodist Church in Hooper and then settled in Fremont, Nebraska. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Washington DC where they were both employed by the National Security Agency. Upon returning to Fremont, Gwen lovingly supported Robert Knigge as he rejoined the Fremont Public School System as a teacher, coach and counselor. As a homemaker, Gwen happily and successfully helped raise their three children, Robb, Chris and Steve. After their youngest completed elementary school, Gwen attended Midland Lutheran College. In 1981 she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree within three years and graduated Cum Laude. She began teaching at Fremont High School and served as an educator for 10 years. Gwen was forced to retire from her love of teaching in 1991 due to the unfortunate onset of her illness, a progressive degenerative brain disease. Gwen was a member of Chapter HK of the PEO Sisterhood, National Teachers Association, National Education Associations, Fremont Education Association and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fremont. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday school in the Hooper Church. Survivors include: her husband, Robert J. Knigge; sons, Robert (and wife, Larkia) Knigge of Centennial. Colorado, Christopher Knigge of Euless, Texas, and Steven Knigge (and wife Angela) of Fremont; sisters, Marion Roberts Claussen of Vienna, Virginia and her children, Peter Henry Claussen and Midge Clausen Greenbaum and Dorthy Roberts Hatchett of Daphne, Alabama and her children, Richard J. Hatchett, III, David William Hatchett, and Paul Larkin Hatchett; and five grandchildren, Melanie, Jake, Maria, Mia Mahlee and Jack Knigge. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Helen Yost. There will be a celebration of life service at First United Methodist Church in Fremont, Nebraska on Saturday, March 10th at 11:00 AM with Rev. Gregg Hall officiating. There will be no viewing or visitation. A private interment with family will be held at Memorial Cemetery. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be directed to First United Methodist Church.
