Description	:	August C. Junge was born in Hanover, Germany and received his education in his homeland and worked at home with his father, John H. Junge until 1866. At the age of 26 he served for a short time in the German Army, during the Franco-Prussian War. In 1867, he Emigrated to America. The voyage to New York was made by a Steamer. He went to Cook County, Illinois for a brief period and then on to Rock Island County, where some of his relatives resided. Junge was born in Hanover, Germany and received his education in his homeland and worked at home with his father, John H. Junge until 1866. At the age of 26 he served for a short time in the German Army, during the Franco-Prussian War. In 1867, he Emigrated to America. The voyage to New York was made by a Steamer. He went to Cook County, Illinois for a brief period and then on to Rock Island County, where some of his relatives resided. He made this his home for five years doing general farming, both as a laborer and renter. He received $200.00 per year for his services. In 1868, August and Miss Dorathee Conrad, a Native of Prussia, Germany were married. She came to the United States earlier in the year with her parents and siblings. They first located in Illinois and later her parents and family moved to Missouri. In 1872, August and Dorathee relocated in York County, Nebraska, and took up a homestead of 80 acres in Thayer Township on Section 20. August built a sod house of two rooms in which they lived for six years. He then erected a more substantial dwelling and set out trees which added to the appearance and value of the entire property. August was one of the prominent agriculturists of Thayer Township, York County, Nebraska. By 1889, August and Dorathee had one of the finest farms in the county, which contained 540 acres of fine farm land. He was well known and highly respected by all for his congenial and pleasant manner. They were blessed with eleven children. August and Dorathee and their family were members in good standing of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, located northeast of York, Nebraska.
