Prayer service will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Ogden at a later date. August Edward Staebler was born in Williams, IA on August 8, 1932, the son of Frank and Irma (Holdgrafer) Staebler. At the age of 3, the family moved to a farm near Beaver, IA. He attended country school until sixth grade when the school closed, and then attended Ogden Community Schools until graduating in 1951. After graduation, Bud helped his parents on the farm until February of 1953 when he was drafted. He served in the U.S. Army until receiving his honorable discharge in December of 1954. On April 12, 1955, Bud was united in marriage with Marjorie Jane Hollingshead of Dana, IA. From this union were two children, Craig in January of 1956 and Kathline in March of 1957. Bud farmed on a farm south of Dana and drove the Dana school bus until 1959 when the Staebler family moved to the farm north of Ogden. In July of 1961, he began to work for the government as a full time contractor until his retirement in 2006; he was lacking only 37 days to have 48 years of government service between the military and his contractor position. Bud earned an Accounting Degree from AIB in 1969 and attended ISU for 2 years. In 1970, he formed the tenant landlord service for Iowa State University. He was hauling rural mail in Perry and Stratford to Boone in 1989. After retirement, Bud moved from his home in Boone to an acreage near Boone in 2007. Bud was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone since 1981. He also ran the Four Aces Bingo for several years from 1985 until the 1990s and again in 2001. Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; son, Craig Staebler; daughter, Kathy Bice; siblings, Mary, John, Gretchen, Connie, and Betty. He is survived by his grandchildren, Jessica (Jason) Brogden, Matthew Staebler, Nicholas Hadaway, Michelle (Jared) Sharr, Christopher (Heather) Staebler, Danielle (Brian) Schertz, and Jennifer (PJ) Runge; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; son-in-law, Mike Bice; and siblings, Dorothy Staebler, Bill Staebler, and Veronica Flotz. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone.
