To this union fifteen children were born; nine sons and six daughters, two sons and one daughter dying in infancy. Two years after the marriage, the family migrated to America, locating on a homestead in Knox county, Nebr., three miles north of Bazile Mills. Here the family resided for a good many years. About nine years ago Mr. Kumm suffered a stroke of paralysis, depriving him of the use of his right arm and leg to a certain extent. Last March Mr. and Mrs. Kumm came to Bazile Mills to make their home with their son, August and family. The past two weeks the health of Mr. Kumm again became impaired, when cancer of the stomach developed and after a short illness brought on his death on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m., at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 3 days. Mr. Kumm was loved and respected by his every acquaintance and lived an honorable and, in all, a noble life. He will be missed not only at home, but in the community where he has resided for so many years. The surviving relatives are his widow, seven sons, Carl, August and Henry of near Bazile Mills; Emil living near Center, Herman and Reinhold of Norfolk, Richard living near Osmond; five daughters, Mrs. Emma Perlish living in Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Emena Kyriss and Mrs. Anna Kyriss near Butte, Mrs. Sophie Kiepke near Pierce and Mrs. August Wilson of Hasty, Colo. The deceased also leaves to mourn, thirty three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on last Sunday afternoon from the Lutheran church in Bazile Mills, conducted by Rev. Stegeman, who delivered a very fitting eulogy of the life of Mr. Kumm. The church was overflowing with friends, who had come to pay their final tribute to this esteemed pioneer of Knox county. The remains were laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery at Bazile Mills.
