For the purposes of this memorial, I will use Frederick as his middle name, as it appears that is the spelling he preferred. Obituary From Ottumwa Courier, October 27, 1979: AUGUST F. GRUBER August F. Gruber, 78, of 2222 E. Main died at 1:21 a.m. today, Oct. 27, in St. Joseph Hospital. He was born in Harper Feb. 4, 1901, to Edwin and Rose Striegel Gruber. He retired from the Burlington Northern railroad after 50 years. He was a member of Eagles. He married Gladys Clark Sept. 9, 1978, at Agency. Survivors: his wife; sons Arthur of Aurora, Colo., and Dale of Longmont, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Dennis Stoher of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters and a brother. Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday in Jay Funeral Home, the Rev. Gerald McGee of Agency Methodist Church officiating. Burial: Shaul Cemetery.
