Although his friends knew his days were numbered. But we had been accustomed to seeing him every day, going about his work out on the farm that we didn't realize that the hour for his summons was to be soon. August , son of Martin and Minnie Taute, was born near Milwaukee, Wis. November 6, 1842, and died at his home in Paton Nov. 12, 1922 being just a few days past 80 years old. His early days were spent on the farm with his parents near Milwaukee, but at the age of 18 he started out to take care of himself and went to Madison., from which place he accompanied friends to Benton County, Iowa. It was there on August 31, 1867, that he was married to Clara Viles, who was a faithful companion and helpmate to him for nearly half a century. Nine years later in 1876 the family moved to Paton, which has been his home for over 46 years, he having only spent two winters in the south and two summers in North Dakota. Eleven children were born to this union, of whom six have preceded their father into enternity, three dying in infancy. The mother was called home in 1914. Those who are left to mourn the loss of both father and mother are Mrs. Alice Pemble and J.H. Taute of Paton, Lemuel of Ogllvie, N.D., Arthur and Ralph of Tolley, N.D., Mrs Annie Taute of Oklahoma City. Also 17 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. He also leaves four sisters and two brothers, some who were unable to be present, besides a host of nephews and nieces. Mr Taute's parents were adherents of the Lutheran faith and brought the children up in the strict way of this church. In a recent conversation, he said he was not afraid to die, but was willing and ready to go when the summons came. Having lived among us for so many years, Mr. Taute was well known and highly thought of by the people of Paton for his strict integrity and good business ability. He was a kind neighbor and a friend to all. Those in attendance besides the immediate family were his sister, Mrs. Chas Hanke and son Arthur of Chicago, his brother , Lewis of Sioux City, his wife's brother John Viles and daughter Mrs. Florence Haywood of Vinton. Services were conducted from the Presbyterian church by J.J. Pruitt of Grand Junction, a former pastor. Many tokens appeared in flowers showing sincere sympathy to the family, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery besides his wife. The family wishes to thank the friends who with willing hands assisted them with many deeds of kindness and for the sympathy extended in flowers during the death of their father.
