Wirsig was born in Germany, on October 21, 1839 [s/b 10/2/1839], and came to this country with his parents at the age of 17 years and settled in Lee county, Iowa, near Fort Madison, where he grew to manhood. 'In 1864 he, with several companions, emigrated to the gold fields of California, where he remained seven years, again returning to Lee Co., Iowa. On February 25, 1872 he was united in marriage to Miss Julia Vornhahl of Primrose, Iowa. To this union were born six children, five sons and one daughter [Florence]. "He is survived by four sons, Fred C., Herbert H., Albert A. and Orville D. and two brothers." "Interment was made at the Primrose Cemetery."
