Description	:	Funeral services for August D. Haeck, 89, Belle Plaine, were Friday, Feb. 13,1998, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Belle Plaine, with Deacon J.C. Otto officiating, with the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post No. 39 participating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Haeck died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Pallbearers were Joe Malecek, Raymond Beran, Robert Loutsch, Joel Hanzelka, Robert Murtha and Robert DeMeulenaere. Music was provided by organist and vocalist, Tracy Novak. August D. Haeck was bom July 28, 1908, at Sledjinge, Belgium, the son of Julius and Emma Vols Haeck. He received his education at Dubuque and Jefferson Township. He married Hattie B. Stary on August 3,1935, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Belle Plaine. He worked at Eagle Signal Corporation, Rock Island Arsenal, was a mcahine operator and inspector at Farmall Works, International Harvester, Rock Island, IL, and was a gunsmith for 35 years. He has resided in Iowa, Minnesota, and Michigan in his younger years, and after his marriage lived in the Quad Cities for 41 years, moving back to Belle Plaine in July 1976. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, served as a warden for several years in the Knights of Columbus Council No. 8479 and was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree and member of the National Rifleman's Associaiton. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 1/ 2 years in Panama. He is survived by his wife, Hattie; a daughter, Marian J. Janss, Belle Plaine; one brother, Henry M. Haeck, Lansing, MI; two grandchildren, Elana Janss Malfese and husband, Rob, and Janeen M. Janss, all of Belle Plaine. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gerald; and three sisters, Martha Grawet Saltis, Marie Wallace, and Clara Carl. Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, was in charge of the arrangements.
