He leaves, besides his wife, three daughters, Myrtle, Esther, and Edna, and one son, Ralph, and two brothers, Lawrence, hear here, and Carl in Illinois, and two half-brothers, Carl and Frank, both in the U. Obituary, from the Clinton, Iowa, Advertiser, Friday, 04 Oct 1918, p.8: The funeral of the late Gus Oehrlein, who died very suddenly at his home north of town Sunday night, was held Wednesday afternoon, services being held at the Calamus M. E. church, conducted by the Rev. H. E. White, pastor. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery at Grand Mound. A large assembly of relatives, friends, and neighbors were in attendance as a tribute of respect to the deceased and family. The following acted as pallbearers: Jasper Babcock, J. W. Reihman, Al Smith, H. G. Lucht, C. J. Bundy, George B. Smith. Deceased was born in Olive Township on Jan. 2, 1880, and was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Kallenbach on May 17, 1900. He for many years was associated with his father, Chas. Oehrlein, in their mill southwest of town, and later moved to the farm near Bliedorn, where he resided at the time of his death. Besides the bereft widow, he is survived by one son, Ralph, 3 daughters, Myrtle, Esther, and Edna, all at home; also by two sisters, Mrs. Chas. Waack, living near here, Mrs. Fred Lindeman of South Dakota; and two brothers, Carl of Peoria, and Lawrence, east of town; also two half-brothers, Joseph, somewhere in France, and Frank, at Camp Forrest Lytle, Georgia, who was unable to attend the funeral due to the [Spanish Flu] quarantine. Besides the many relatives, he leaves a host of friends, by whom he will be sadly missed, who extend sympathy to the sorrowful family. H. White, of Calamus. Bearers of the pall were J. W. Reihman, Jasper Babcock, Al Smith, H. G. Lucht, C. J. Bundy, and Geo. B. Smith. The remains were laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery at Grand Mound.
