Oct 30, 1942- Page 1 August Pearson August Pearson was born in Sweden on April 19, 1869 and passed away at his home in Arapahoe, Nebraska, on October 24, 1942 at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 5 days. His parents came to the United States in 1870 and located at Johnstown, Penn. In his early life the family came to Nebraska locating in Fillmore County where he grew to young manhood. On February 9, 1893, he was united in marriage with Emma Sandburg of Geneva, Nebraska. To this union were born five sons and two daughters. One son and one daughter preceded him in death. They were already making plans to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on February 9, 1943. After living on a farm for seven years in Fillmore County, they moved, in 1910, into Clay County and in 1921, they located in Edgar, Nebraska. While living here Mr. Pearson was prominent in public affairs, being street commissioner for nine years and serving the city in other ways. In 1934, he moved to Arapahoe where he lived until the time of his death. Mr. Pearson had not been in the best of health for many years. In 1937, he suffered a serious heart attack from which he never fully recovered. However, he was able to be around and enjoy life with his family. On Monday, October 19, he had a fall in which he sustained a serious injury. He gradually grew weaker and all that medical aid did, could not save him. The end came peacefully on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Pearson was a man of good qualities. He was a lover of children Farming was his favorite occupation and he was interested in all kinds of sports. He had many friends because he showed himself friendly. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Emma; four sons and one daughter, Mrs. Earl Organ of Edgar, Nebr.; Chester of Cambridge, Nebr.; Ray of Emporia, Kan.; Glenn of Red Cloud, Nebr.; and Gordon of Arapahoe. Remaining also are 14 grandchildren, three great grandsons, and many old neighbors and friends. Brief funeral services were held in Arapahoe, Tuesday, October 27, and in the Methodist Church in Edgar at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. H. W. Wagner of Arapahoe in charge. Rev. S. W. Longacre assisted at the services in Edgar. Pallbearers were Tim Kane, Wm. Black, S. C. Hattan, F. A. Westering, C. H. Merrill and Ed Cushing. Mrs. E. J. Mort and Ed Cushing sang "Rock of Ages," "Jesus Leads" and "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder," with Mrs. Lydia Phelps at the piano. Interment was made in the Edgar Cemetery.
