Service was conducted at the Colver Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Clare J. Hayes, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Vocal selections were sung by Walter G. Sprick with Mrs. Charles F. Brown playing the piano accompaniments. Burial was made in the Holyoke cemetery. The suicidal act was committed at 8:30 o'clock Friday morning in an upstairs room of the Banaka home. A bullet from a rifle fired by the Yuma County farmer pierced his heart. Investigation was conducted by the Yuma County coroner. August Henry Banaka was born April 28, 1882 at Netawaka, Kansas. At the time of his death he was 59 years, nine months and one day old. He was married to Miss Anna Belle Thomas August 22, 1902. During the past few years he has farmed in Yuma County. In early childhood he was baptized in the Lutheran church. He was a member of the Yuma County Farmers Union organization. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Anna Belle Banaka: six sons, Leslie, Walter and Donald of Holyoke, Samuel of Hoquiam, Washington, and Kenneth and Harold who are in United States Army service; three daughters, Mrs. Alta Winter of Hoquiam, Washington, Mrs. Ethel Jones of Bushnell, Nebraska, and Miss Marjorie Banaka of Holyoke; four grandchildren; three brothers, William Banaka of Holyoke, Hugo Banaka of Wray, and Henry Banaka of Kansas; and three sisters, Mrs. Sopha Krautchen of Holyoke, and Mesdames Freda Montgomery and Minnie Schoonver of Topeka, Kansas.
