He married Christina Ziegler, daughter of Adam and Katharina (Tramnitzke) Ziegler, Oct. 13, 1855. They lived in Dennewitz, Bessarabia until 1868 when the family moved to Michaelsfeld, Georgia*, east of the Black Sea. He helped as an assistant surveyor to lay out new villages. He immigrated to the USA in May 1878 and settled on a home stead about 5 1/2 miles SW of Parkston SD. He celebrated his 70th wedding anniversary on Oct 26 1925 in Parkston, South Dakota.
