The verdict of the coroner's jury was that Kahle came to his death by accidental drowning. August Kahle was born in Gross Heidorn, Steinhude, Schaumburg, Lippe, Germany, on October 25, 1858 and later came to the United States and settling at Guttenberg, Clayton County, Iowa, where he lived until about 5 years ago, when he went to Dubuque and was employed by the Seipple Lumber Co., but about a month ago was compelled to resign his position at Dubuque on account of his eyesight failing him. He was 55 years and 9 months of age at the time of his death. On July 17 he came to Guttenberg and was boarding at the R. E. Wolter restaurant. Early Saturday morning he left the restaurant for a morning walk as he did every morning, and that was the last seen of him until his body was found Sunday morning. His watch and 5 cents, other jewelry and some clothes were found at the restaurant which belonged to him. He was a member of Guttenberg Lodge No. 126, I. O. O. F., which lodge took charge of the body after the inquest. Arrangements were under way to have him go to the Oddfellow home at Mason City on account of his failing health, had he lived. He was married two times and he leaves to mourn his death 3 daughters, Miss Irene Kahle, of Guttenberg, and two other daughters, and a number of relatives and friends. The funeral was held Sunday evening and interment was made in the City Cemetery. The members of the Oddfellow Lodge attended the funeral in body and said lodge also conducted the funeral services. Deceased was also a member of the Woodman Order.
