Description : According to the 1880 US Census, August was a farmer. He was about 20 years older than his wife, Bertha--in 1880 at census time, she was 19 and he 39. Both he and she were born in Germany--one census said Prussia, parts of which today are now Germany and parts Poland (the change was made after WWI) but the people immigrating from there spoke German and thought of themselves as German. (I have relatives from there)
