Read More	DEATH SUMMONED AUGUST TROEGEL Well Known Farmer Answered Last Call Deceased was Prominent Resident of Johnson Neighborhood and Well Known and Highly Respected Citizen – Funeral Held Sunday Afternoon August Troegel, well known and highly respected farmer of the Johnson neighborhood, passed away at Immanuel Lutheran hospital in Omaha, Wednesday, April 7, and the news of his death was received with deep regret by many relatives and friends. His health began to fail about the end of last year, but apparently he was recuperating from his illness, and his many friends had had not ceased to hope for his recovery. However, he suffered a relapse last week and despite the best of medical skill and tender nursing his passing came in a few days. For many years Mr. Troegel had enjoyed the confidence and full respect of his friends and neighbors. His kindly disposition and trustworthiness enabled him to make and retain friends, which he had in a great number. He was a most devoted husband and father, and his home life was exemplary. Mr. Troegel was born near Lych, East Prussia, Germany, February 19, 1865 and had reached the age of 72 years, one month and 18 days. He was a son of Johann and Wilhelmina Troegel, nee Gonschorek. It was in Germany that he became a member of the Lutheran church through the rite of Holy Baptism and Confirmation. He came to this country in 1892 and lived in Thayer County, Nebraska until the fall of 1898 when he returned to East Prussia. In the spring of 1899 he returned to America and engaged in farming in Nemaha County and had since made his home here. On February 12, 1901 he was united in marriage to Emma Wilhelmina Zabel and this union was blessed with three children, two daughters and one son. Mr. Troegel was a charter member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church of which he was a faithful member up to the time of his death, and the church has lost a valuable worker. He practiced the virtues of religion in a quiet and unassuming manner and his was a worthy example. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Lydia, wife of Walter Broady, and Wilma, wife of Henry Peterson, and his son, Arnold, and one grandchild. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. August Zabel of Auburn and Mrs. Henrietta Koehler of Breslau, Germany, and one brother, Johann Troegel, near Berlin, Germany. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Edward Hansen, were held at the home Sunday afternoon followed by services at St. Matthew’s Church in Johnson, at which time a very large throng gathered to pay their last respects to his memory, and the sentiment of sorrow was expressed in the large number of beautiful floral tributes. Appropriate songs were sung by the choir and Raymond Kiechel sang, “One Sweetly Solemn Thought,” as a solo. The pallbearers were George Meyer, Irwin Wilhelm, Otto Zabel of Athol, Kansas; Walter Hansen of Seward; Walter Zabel and Richard Oestmann. Burial was made in St. Matthew’s Cemetery.
