Obituary: Hampton Chronicle, Hampton, Iowa, December 26, 1940 Former Hampton Lady Succumbs Tuesday Funeral services for Mrs. Herman Nolte, former Hampton resident who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Underkoffler [sic] at Clear Lake last Tuesday night, will be held tomorrow, Friday afternoon at the W. E. Nolte home in Hampton at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. H. M. Raecker, of Manly, will be in charge of the services and burial will be made in the Hampton Cemetery. Mrs. Nolte's death is attributed to the infirmities of old age. Mrs. Nolte, nee Augusta Voges, was born January 31, 1850, in Germany and came with her father to the U.S. when a small girl. Her mother was stricken [sic] on the ship coming over and was buried at sea. The family settled at Madison, Wisconsin, and she grew to womanhood there. Her marriage to Herman Nolte took place September 15, 1869 and the couple resided there until 1873 when they moved to a farm in West Fork township which they operated until 1900 when they moved to Hampton. They moved to Clear Lake in 1924 and there Mr. Nolte died April 8, 1930. Mrs. Nolte had continued to make her home there. Mrs. Nolte was a member of the Evangelical Church and always took an active interest in its work. The deceased is survived by two sons, Walter E. Nolte and Arthur Nolte of Hampton; three daughters, Mrs. A. B. Ogan of Marshalltown, Mrs. Emma Kerschner and Mrs. Frank Underkoffler [sic] of Clear Lake. She also leaves twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
