Born in New Bedford, son of the late Joseph P. and Frances B. (Jazowska) Gonet, he grew up in Russells Mills, Dartmouth prior to moving to Westport in 1941. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Gonet was a carpenter for C. Gonet 94 of Westport passed away Friday February 6, 2009 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was husband of the late Ila M. (Gifford) Gonet. Born in New Bedford, son of the late Joseph P. and Frances B. (Jazowska) Gonet, he grew up in Russells Mills, Dartmouth prior to moving to Westport in 1941. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Gonet was a carpenter for C. Howland Gifford of Dartmouth and also grew herb plants and bonsai plants with his wife as a business. As a young man, he played trumpet in a small local group. He was a member of the Allen’s Neck Friends Meeting, the Dartmouth Grange and was a volunteer firefighter in Dartmouth. Mr. Gonet repaired clocks, had great interest in local history and loved fishing and growing blueberries. He was father of the late Peter Gonet. Interment in Allen’s Neck Cemetery, Dartmouth.
