Aurelia passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton. Music for the funeral will be provided by Mary Wagner, organist and Pam Steiner, soloist. Casketbearers will be her grandchildren: Debbie Jones, Scott Deutsch, Darcy Cascaes, Denise Lueders, Shelly Peterson, Renae Steiner, Dallas Steiner, Rhonda Borden and Julie Krick. Honorary casketbearers will be her great-grandchildren: Jadee Jones, Tyus Jones, Tre' Jones, Aaron Lueders, Trevor Lueders, Colton Lueders, Mark Lueders, Shauna (Peterson) Zwart, Kaden Peterson, Haley Peterson, Lauren Borden, Jonathon Borden, Cadence Deutsch and Braxton Deutsch. Aurelia Catherine Samson was born October 28, 1912, on the family farm near Eden, SD to Joseph and Theresa (Sigaty) Samson. She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden. She attended country school near her home in Fort Township. On June 23, 1936, she married Bernard M. Deutsch at Eden. They farmed in Eden Township and then in Fort Township. They moved to Eden in 1946 where they owned and operated the Gamble Store until 1964 when they moved to Aberdeen. Bernard worked at White Drug and Aurelia worked at J. C. Penney's. She belonged to Sacred Heart Church and Altar Society in Aberdeen and was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary. They retired in 1978 and moved to Britton. Bernard passed away on February 16, 1988, and Aurelia continued to make her home in Britton until 1995 when she moved to Eden. She became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society there, and also belonged to the Eden Widow's Club. She moved to Greenleaf Assisted Living in Sisseton in October of 2010, and later became a resident of Tekakwitha Living Center. Aurelia was an extremely social person, and enjoyed visiting with friends and family. She was an expert gardener, and loved her time spent tending her vegetables and flowers. Her cottage cheese strudel was well known in Eden and the surrounding area, and will be greatly missed by many. Grateful for having shared her life are her three children: Dennis (Sally) Deutsch of Devils Lake, ND; Karen Steiner of Eden; Connie (Ed) Bock of Brooklyn Park, MN; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Michlitsch of Roslyn, SD. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, five sisters: Luella Schlekewy, Doris Schuster, Lela Waletich, Berniece Opitz, Frances Bartos, a brother, Gordon Samson; and a son-in-law, Dennis Steiner.
