The community was shocked Thursday evening to learn that Austin T. Mack had suddenly passed away just after he had entered a couch of the C. G. W. train for Waterloo at 5p.m. Mr. Mack and family came to Oelwein about 10 days ago from Waukon and proposed to make this city his home, having rented a residence on Third Ave. E. just north of First Street E. He was taken ill Monday and Dr. O'Connor had been called to the home. It was a case of acute obstruction of the bowels. His condition was such that his family physician at Waukon, Dr. Leuterneau, had been called in consultation, and it had been decided to take him to a hospital for treatment. With the two physicians he was taken to the train, and with assistance had entered a couch on the southwest train. He complained of feeling too warm and had been assisted to remove his overcoat and was seated when he gasped two or three times and passed away. The train was held while the body was taken to the station, and from there to the Hintz Bros undertaking parlors. It was a terrible shock to the family as the sudden death was entirely unexpected. The body will be taken to the old home near Carroll on the Sunday morning train, where the last services followed by interment will take place. The family resided near Carroll on a farm for a number of years prior to about ten years ago when they moved to Waukon. Mr. Mack sold his farm there a short time ago and with his family came to Oelwein with the purpose of making this city his place of residence. He was about fifty-seven years of age and is survived by the widow and six children - three sons and three daughters - Frank A., Edwin M., William J., Isabel T., Florence L. and Irene.
