Music at the rites was provided by soloist Darrell Brand accompanied by Mrs Jack Ramsey, organist. Casket bearers were Larry Huff, Martin Speas, John Westercamp, Phil Evans, Larry Manatt and Vincent Johnson II. Mr Watts died Thursday, June 1 in a boating accident while on a fishing trip at Leech Lake near Walker, Minn. He was 66 years old. The son of Sherm and May Varner Watts, he was born near Barnes City on Aug 18, 1911. He attended rural school and Barnes City High School until the tenth grade when he left school to help his father on the farm. He completed the G.E.D. course and received a high school diploma when he was 60 years old. On June 5, 1936, he was married to Ruth Ahlschlager. They have lived in the Barnes City, Malcom and Montezuma areas. Following his retirement in 1976, they continued to live on their farm southeast of here. He was active member of the Barnes City and What Cheer Masonic Lodges for over 40 years. He is survived by his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Ila and Harlan Sterk and Linda and Mogus Molla; a daughter-in-law, Frances Watts; eight grandchildren, Dean, Larry and Marcia Watts, Scott and Steven Vannoy, Michelle and Vincent Sterk and Michael Molla; a brother Warren Watts and four sisters, Merle Watts, Inez Watts, Verna Gilbreaith and Evelyn Duinink. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Bill Gillbreaith. A son, LaVelle, died in the accident with his father. newspaper unknown
