Read More	AGENCY - Ava Creath Newquist, 89, of Agency, died Sept. 24, 2011, at Sylvan Woods assisted living in Ottumwa. Ava was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Agency to Thomas Meyers and Jenny Stull Creath. She married Leland Howard Newquist on Aug. 26, 1943, in Baltimore, MD. Ava was raised in Agency but moved to Baltimore with her family where she graduated from high school. She married Leland while he was serving in the military and followed him to Texas and Kentucky. She then rejoined her family back in Baltimore while he was overseas. Upon returning from Europe, they were then stationed in California while he completed his service. They returned to Wapello County to farm. She worked for the U.S. Government Meat Inspection Service at Morrell's and Agency United Methodist Church as a secretary as well as being a partner in the farming operation. She was an active member of the Agency United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, Wapello County Farm Bureau Women and Agency Housing Authority serving numerous positions among those organizations. She enjoyed traveling and camping around the United States to visit family and friends, as well as traveling to Europe to revisit Leland's military assignments. She cared for her mother until her death and treasured the times spent hosting her brothers and sisters and their children when they returned to visit the farm in Iowa. Her most cherished times were spent "chasing" her grandkids all over the country to their activities. Ava was preceded in death by her husband, Leland; her parents; a brother, Wendell(Velma)Creath; a brother, Lawrence Boyd(Marion)Creath; two sisters, Irene(L.C.)O'Neal and Muriel(Edward)Hawes; one niece and one nephew. Ava is survived by a daughter, Judith(Robert)Kruegeer of Ottumwa; a son, Russell(Judy)Newquist of Batavia; four grandchildren, Marie(Troy)Snyder of Knoxville, Nichole(Matthew)Harvey of Rhome, Texas, Matthew(Molly)Newquist of Boone and Jennifer Newquist of Davenport; a great-grandson, Brett Snyder; a stepgreat-grandson, Brixton Harvey; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 pm Wednesday at Agency United Methodist Church with Rev. Bud Lane officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 10 am Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 pm Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agency United Methodist Church and Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties, Ottumwa, Iowa.
