The Mathews Journal, Thurs, 29 July 1937 Mrs. Avalia Lee Matthews, aged 78 years, died suddenly at her home, at Cobbs Creek, Monday, after spending the day with her daughter, Mrs. Pearl Carney, of Gwynn's Island. Mrs. Matthews is survived by one son, Capt. W. H. Matthews, of Blakes; one daughter, Mrs. Pearl Carney, of Gwynn's Island; two grand-children; two sisters, Mrs. Bettie White, of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Pauline Wainwright, of Baltimore, Md. Lloyd. Honorary: Miss Hazel Hamilton, Mrs. Carey Edwards, Mrs. Melba Wolffe, Mrs. R. E. Lloyd, Miss Bessie Buchannan, Miss Marion Stone, Miss Mattie Stone, Mrs. H. E. Hudgins, Miss Doris Kelley, Mrs. Bernice Wriggley, Miss Ruby Lloyd and Mrs. Norma Thompson.
