Mrs. Avis Ernestine Wilson was the daughter of Lyman and Mary Darling of this town and her whole life has been spent in her childhood home and the home of her married life within one-half mile of it.... Mrs. Avis Ernestine Wilson was the daughter of Lyman and Mary Darling of this town and her whole life has been spent in her childhood home and the home of her married life within one-half mile of it. She was married at 18 and was the mother of five sons, all living, Milo and Earl of Hartford, Conn., Carl of Stannard, Leo of Orleans and Leon of Glover. All with their families were present at the funeral but Milo and Earl did not reach home in time to see their mother alive. She had one brother, Charles Darling of Barton, and a sister, Mrs. Ellen Bement, both of whom were present when she died. The floral offerings were many and very beautiful. Mr. Wilson, who survives her, is a Civil war veteran and has been much out of health for the past year. Of Mrs. Wilson it may be said that those who knew her best loved her most. Brave and true she has gone on with intrepid cheerfulness, while the dread disease has for years been slowly sapping her life and only at the very end did she lay life's burdens down for other hands to take up. She leaves a place in the life of husband and sons none other can fill and her near friends will miss her cheery presence sorely." (Orleans County Monitor, 9/26/1917) .
