A funeral service will be held July 13, at First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Avis was born June 11, 1917 in Banner County to Morris and Myrtle (Schindler) Sandberg. She graduated from Harrisburg High School and attended Chadron State College. Avis was born June 11, 1917 in Banner County to Morris and Myrtle (Schindler) Sandberg. She graduated from Harrisburg High School and attended Chadron State College. She taught two years at Epworth School and was honored at UNK in 2013 as a one-room-school teacher. She married Dwight Brodhead on June 27, 1937, in Sidney. They were married for 64 years. Avis was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, and was a past-president of United Methodist Women. She was active in the West-Nebraska General Hospital Auxiliary and served as a president. She served as City-Chairman for the local Heart Fund Campaign. Avis also volunteered in many capacities to support her children’s activities, the church, and community needs. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, camping, sewing, and cooking. Avis especially loved being with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband; and one grandchild.
