Avis worked for Glen L. Martin fabricating airplane parts as a part of the war effort during WWll. She was very active in her church,The Friendship Church of the Brethren. She served as a financial secretary for a time,sang in the choir,taught Sunday School and was a Deacon. Avis enjoyed keeping house,quilting,gardening and canning and serving the church.
