Description	:	B. Susan (Sandifur) Fivecoate Susan went home to God 20 February 2017. The “B” stands for Biddie. Susan was named after her grandmother-- Biddie Alaphare Moses. Susan was born in the mountains of South-Eastern Kentucky, in the town of Harlan, on July 11, 1944. She spent her early childhood in those mountains she loved so dearly. Susan (Sandifur) Fivecoate Susan went home to God 20 February 2017. The “B” stands for Biddie. Susan was named after her grandmother-- Biddie Alaphare Moses. Susan was born in the mountains of South-Eastern Kentucky, in the town of Harlan, on July 11, 1944. She spent her early childhood in those mountains she loved so dearly. Susan was born 11 July 1944 to Joseph G. and Ordoruth “Audrey” (Moses) Sandifur. The family lived in Pleasantview, Kentucky, located near Williamsburg, Corbin, and Jellico. Her Dad was a coal miner and a country gospel singer. Joe’s dad, John Sandifur, was the singing teacher for Harrogate, TN. Joe also owned and operated several small businesses, a Diner, a Motel, and a restaurant they called “The Corner.” The Corner catered to teens—it had a lunch counter, juke box, a coke machine, and an area where the kids could dance. Susan grew up with an older sister, Sandra (Sandifur) Wintland, and a younger brother, Gary Sandifur. The family moved to Kokomo around 1953 when Joe joined a construction crew converting the 2 lane us 31 into a 4 lane highway. Susan graduated from Kokomo High School in 1962. She had many good friends in school, and she has kept up their friendship over the years. In recent times, Susan and several other friends, including Nancy (Freeman) Duncan meet at the home of Jo (Fricke) Gilbert once a week, where each would take a turn preparing a meal for the others. She also served on the class of 1962 reunion committee. In July of 1962, she married Jesse Edward “Ed” Fivecoate. Susan and Ed would have been married for 55 years this coming July. They have two Children: Jeff Fivecoate (and wife Christine (McComas) Fivecoate); and Christina (Fivecoate) Andreas (and husband Jason Andreas). Susan and Ed have Five grandchildren: (Jeff and Chris Fivecoate) Micah (and wife Abby), Abigayle (and husband Alex Abston), Helen Elizabeth, Nathanael; and (Christina and Jason Andreas) Suzannah Andreas. Abigayle and her husband blessed the family with a great-grandson, Samuel, and, in June, they will again bless the family with a second great-grandson. Susan and Ed attend the Kokomo First Church of the Nazarene. Prior to that, they were members of Fair Havens Christian Missionary Alliance church for many years. Susan was also active in the Kokomo Christian Women’s Club. In addition, she and Ed served as boy scout leaders from 1970-1978, and Susan was an active room mother leader at Wallace School and Palmer School when her children attended these schools. Susan loves to sew and has made many beautiful dresses for her granddaughters and lots of baby clothes for all their grandchildren. She has also done a great deal of fine embroidery work, and she loves to decorate homes. Singing was a natural gift Susan enjoyed, and I am sure she is already singing with her dad in God’s choir. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother. She is sorely missed by the rest of us! Funeral services for Susan will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at First Church of the Nazarene, 2734 S. Washington Street, Kokomo, with Pastor David Leeder officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-8 pm on Monday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 West Lincoln Road.
