Deitrick, one of the prominent citizens of Fremont Township, is a native of Muskingum County, Ohio, born September 10, 1832, a son of Jacob and Jane (Hutson) Deitrick. His mother died when he was but two years old, his father surviving until 1885. He remained with his father until his majority, and then learned the millwright's trade at which he worked five years. In 1858 he came to Iowa, having previously entered 120 acres of land in Washington Township, Clarke County, which he afterward sold and brought the farm where he now lives, at the time with no improvements save a worthless log cabin in which they could not keep dry when the rain came, and upon these occasions huddled together under a large umbrella. His land he has brought under a good state of cultivation, and his building improvements are among the best in the township. He is purely a self-made man, gathering his property together little by little, by industry and frugality. He has served his township in various official relationships and is an efficient and reliable officer. In politics he is a Greenbacker. He was married in 1860 to Miss Sophia Hunt, daughter of Garner and Elizabeth Hunt. They have no children. The Osceola Sentinel, Osceola, IA December 13, 1917, Page 13 Mr. and Mrs. Win Deitrick attended the funeral service of the former's uncle, Balt Deitrick, near Osceola Sunday. Mr. Deitrick was one of the pioneers of Clarke county, coming to the state in the early fifties. He was past eighty-five years of age at the time of his death. The Osceola Sentinel, Osceola, IA December 27, 1917, Page 2 Public notice is hereby given, that the undersigned has this day been appointed and commissioned by the District Court of Clarke County, In the State of Iowa, administrator of the estate of Baltser Deitrick, deceased, and all persons having claims against said estate are hereby notified to file them with the clerk of said Court, clearly stated and duly sworn to, and within legal time, preparatory to their being allowed or proved, and persons owing said estate are requested to make immediate payment to the undersigned and avoid costs. Know all men by these presents: That I Balster Deitrick, of Fremont Township, Clarke County, Iowa, being of sound mind and of lawful age, being of disposing memory and in my usual health of body, being impressed while in ordinary health for a man of my age to make distribution of my estate to take effect at my death, do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills made by me. That is to say. 1: I will, direct and provide that all of my just debts, including my funeral expenses and the expenses of my last sickness, be paid from my estate as soon as convenient for my executor, and I direct that I be buried in our family lot beside my deceased wife, Sophia Deitrick, and that a suitable inscription be carved in the monument already erected. 2: I direct, authorize and empower my executor hereafter names to sell and convey and convert into money all my property, real, personal or mixed, of which I may die seized or possessed, for the purpose of making distribution of my estate. 3: I give and bequeath to my niece Oli Baughman the sum of $500.00 to be paid to her by my executor. 4: I give and bequeath to my niece Daisy Deitrick the sum of $500.00 to be paid to her by my executor. 5: I give and bequeath to my niece Iva Sophia Deitrick, the sum of $400.00 to be paid to her by my executor. 6: I give and bequeath to my nephew Harold Balster Deitrick the sum of $400.00 to be paid to him by my executor. 7: The rest and residue of my estate which is left after the payment of my just debts and of the bequests heretofore made, I give and bequeath to the sons and daughters of my brothers Joseph Deitrick, Michael Deitrick and Louis Deitrick, each of these nieces and nephews to share and share alike in said rest and residue, except those who receive bequests in paragraphs 3, 4, 5 and 6 of this will are to receive only the amounts bequeathed respectively in said paragraphs and are not to share in said rest and residue. Lastly, I hereby nominate and appoint as executor to this my last will and testament my long time friend W. B. Tallman of Osceola, Iowa, to carry the same into effect in the manner as provided by law and as provided in this will. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and subscribed my name to this my last will and testament this July 3, 1916. Balster Deitrick We the undersigned, hereby certify that on this date last above written-July 3, 1916, the testator Balster Deitrick signed the foregoing instrument in our presence, that at the time of signing he declared the same to be his last will and testament and requested us to sign the same as witnesses, and that we signed the same as such witnesses in the presence of the testator and in the presence of each other. D. 1916, was duly proved before and allowed by said court as and for the last will and testament of the real and personal estate of Balster Deitrick late of said county, deceased, and was by said court ordered to be recorded as such will and testament.
